I’ve just had my wrist slapped by my boss.
Apparently I have a problem with authority and it’s affecting global team relations, particularly as he perceives me to have some influence over the UK team. So my issues with authority are percolating through the team and affecting the impressionable youth. So, it’s all good fun here in the office. I’ve got to try and be more of a good example and in return I’ve asked that the directives from the US are a little less dictatorial.
I don’t think I have a problem with authority… I think authority has a problem with me!

You should know by now that US corporate executives are control freaks.
I recall my mum organising a charity event around a James Bond film premiere at a cinema in Nottingham. The cinema was owned by National Amusements. The cinema manager wasn’t empowered at all. He had to ask the US permission to do anything not specifically defined in a standard procedure. This was taken to extremely absurd levels and meant he actually had to phone the US before he was allowed to temporarily renumber the seating for the event!
It’s true, this guy is a complete control freak and one with very little managerial experience and few people skills, having come up from a very technical background. He has a very black-and-white perspective. My questioning is his insubordination.
But then, in all fairness, I do have a history of insubordination.
