Today I am mostly drinking Riesling. All day…

It’s time to plug other people’s events and stuff.
First off, Rhea is selling one of her pieces on Ebay.
In her words: This is a dream-like representation of an African landscape, 2007. My perception begins with layers. I want to see everything at the same time, everything hidden alongside all that is revealed, naked to my gaze. I want to see all the connections and comprehend them. View the world like a tapestry, with many scenes occupying a flat space to be studied at leisure. The world itself, though, is displayed in many layers that occupy space after space, as far as the eye can see. Yet within each of these layers possibilities are both hidden and revealed. Background planes are obscured from view and negative spaces provide windows to the layer beyond.

Next up, a perennial favourite, Monkey is doing his live event in Camden on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Folkadot at The Green Note. In his words:
My favourite night are having me back!
The Green Note is a lovely little cafe/restaurant/venue/place/thing just up the road from the Jazz Cafe in lovely old camden town. I read there a few months ago and they were great, the venue was lovely and the audience enjoyed it, which is always a plus…
So I’m delighted to be going back , and I would love to take a few of you with me..
If the set-up is the same as last time, I will be reading in between acts, which will be chilled acoustic sensitive types.
Come down, have some veggie tapas, a pint of organic Freedom beer, a nice mid-week sit down soaking up the tunes and then a little giggle at me.
Tell ‘em Vinnie sent ya…
I ended up not having enough reading material for the return trip on Sunday, so I started listening to the audiobook of Warren Ellis’ Crooked Little Vein. It’s actually a good listen, with some laugh out loud funny parts. But this is Warren Ellis. There are some really fucked up, cringeworthy bits too. Basically, take Warren’s blog, take out all the bits that aren’t disturbing and wrap what’s left into a noir detective story. Voilà, you have created Crooked Little Vein. Okay, that may come across as a little unfair, it is after all well written and entertaining. But it also contains ostrich date-rape and godzilla bukkake fetishism. And I’m only a quarter of the way through.
I’m spending a pleasant day, relaxing on the Artemis, a tall ship out of Portsmouth. Yar, me hearties!
It’ll be a busy weekend for me, as of tonight.
Tonight, Penny and I travel to sunny Chelmsford in preparation for Kev & Lynsey’s wedding tomorrow where I will be assisting in the ushering. You can look forward to me not uploading pictures of me in a morning suit.
Saturday we’re going with the shifty ferret to Wembley to see the Foo Fighters, supported by the Futureheads and Supergrass. Very exciting!
Sunday, Penny and I go our separate ways. Penny will be walking the hills of Montenegro for eight days, while I will finally be taking advantage of my Christmas present from 2006(!) and going tall ships sailing.
Okay, let me get the negatives out of the way. Harrison is ooollld. The antagonists are a bit paper-thin. The MacGuffin is pretty shallow, even for an Indy movie. Ray Winstone’s character was pretty much redundant. The finale was a bit weak.
Right, now that that’s done, I really enjoyed the newest Indy film. All criticisms aside, it was still an Indy film, including all the ridiculousness and the film was in keeping with the heritage of the genre, which sits with adventure movies from the 40s and 50s. Is this movie going to convince Indyphiles? No. Is it as good as the Last Crusade? No. But it was good.
Rated a Must See for Indy fans
